This painting is a commissioned piece. 40 kilometers along highway 60, past the east gates of Algonquin Park is Rock Lake. This gem of wilderness is amazing with a rugged landscape that is a blend of cracked granite typical of the Haliburton/Bancroft geology and the smooth rock surfaces found in more western regions like Georgian Bay. Towering over the lake are three rock walls, each about 100' high and 300' long. Mix this iconic landscape with the wind-swept white pines, a dash of turbulent water and a sky that threatens to turn nasty, and you have the most beautiful feast for the eyes.
